After graduating Humber College in Toronto with a degree in contemporary music and playing with some of the school’s top bands (the Don Thompson Ensemble, the Humber Studio Jazz Big Band, Hilario Duran’s Latin Explosion), Olivier Clements moved back to his hometown of Victoria BC to perform and collaborate with some of the Canada’s best known indie rock and folk artists. His performances include concerts with Louis-Jean Cormier, Dan Mangan, Emily Reid, Towers and Trees, the O’Darling, Miss Emily Brown, Dave Lang, and Teagan Johnston. Clements has also performed as guest principal trumpet for the Civic Orchestra, the Coupland Birthday Orchestra, as a soloist and composer for the CBC Galaxy Rising Stars (opening for Brian Blade Fellowship Band) and as a trumpet player for the Victoria Operatic Society and the Victoria Jazz Orchestra.
In the studio, Clements’ has worked extensively as a session trumpet/flugelhorn player and horn arranger. He has recorded and written parts for Said the Whale, Northcote, Jennah Barry, Aidan Knight, Teagan Johnston, Hutch, Ciseaux, Ma Petite, Towers and Trees, Les Montres Terribles, The Party on High Street, and The O’darling. However, Olivier Clements’ main project has been with Aidan Knight. Playing flugelhorn, wurlitzer, and synths, Clements has been touring, recording and writing with Knight since his début album “Versicolour” in 2010. With a busy international touring schedule, the band has shared the stage with Karkwa, Dan Mangan, Half Moon Run, Said The Whale, Hey Ocean, Hannah Georgas, We Are the City, Maurice, Brasstronaut, Dave Vertessi, and Leif Vollebekk. Their most recent album, “Each Other” (Outside Music), was released January 22, 2016. |
